Serena Williams has won her fourth Australian Open singles title, thrashing third seed Dinara Safina 6-0 6-3 in the women’s final of Australian Open 2009 at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday night.

The victory is Williams’ 10th singles Grand Slam title, making her the seventh woman to win 10 or more major singles crowns.

Williams also takes over the women’s No.1 ranking after her victory, deposing Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic, who lost to Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli in the fourth round in Melbourne.
